China's domestic arrivals to grow 8.8% to reach 3.08 billion in H1 2019
According to a report released by China Tourism Academy, domestic visitor arrivals is expected to grow by close to 9% to reach 3 billion in the first half of 2019.1,2
All together generating tourism revenue of RMB2.78 trillion, up by 13.5% over the same period of last year.
Notably, domestic tourism registered year-on-year growth of 7.6%, 10.9%, 13.7% and 7.7% during the traditional public holidays, such as the Chinese Spring Festival, Tomb-Sweeping Day, May Day and Dragon Boat Festival respectively.
Accordingly, tourism revenue during these occasions increased by 8.2%, 13.7%, 16.1% and 8.6% year-on-year.
In 2018, domestic visitors who travelled to Red Tourism destinations recorded 660 million, accounting for 11.9% of total domestic tourists, with tourism revenue of RMB425.8 million accounting for 7.13% of total domestic tourism revenue.
Favored by China’s booming economy, improved transportation and rising personal incomes, the domestic tourism market is expected to maintain steady growth in the second half of 2019.
